Since 1934, The Australian Society of Anaesthetists has a proud history of supporting research by Australian Anaesthetists. These are administered by the Scientific Prizes, Awards and Research Committee (SPARC) and State Committees. The current research priorities of the ASA are:

1. ASA Small Grants
Small grants (maximum $3000) are suitable for trainees and early career researchers. Two rounds are available with application deadlines in March and October each year.
2. Pre-National Scientific Congress (NSC) adjudicated grants
These prizes, awards and grants are administered by SPARC. Recipients are decided prior to the NSC. The application deadline is June each year.
- ASA Annual Research Grant and Scholarship – maximum $75,000
- Jackson Rees Research Grant – maximum $27,500
- Kevin McCaul Prize – maximum $11,000
- Jeanne Collison Prize – maximum $11,000
3. NSC Presentation Awards
Applications and deadlines for abstracts for these prizes are via that year’s NSC registration website.
- Gilbert Troup Prize –$10,000 for winner, $3000 for runner-up
- ASA Best Poster Prize – $5000 for winner, $2000 for runner-up
- ASA Trainee Member Group Best Poster Prize – Complimentary registration for future NSC (approx value up to $2000)
- ASA Trainee Member Audit/Survey Prize – Complimentary registration for future NSC (approx value up to $2000)
- Rupert Hornabrook Prize – Complimentary registration for future NSC (approx value up to $2000)
