An exemplary society of anaesthetists advocating for the specialty, patients, patient safety and an accessible, equitable health system.
Our mission
The mission of the ASA is to support members and advance their skills while advocating for the anaesthesia specialty to ensure safe and high-quality patient care for the Australian public.
Implementation
To advance its Mission, ASA will:
Represent
the anaesthesia specialty to stakeholders.
Advocate
for patient and community access, equity, and patient education.
Engage
with anaesthetists and provide member services.
Provide
professional development activities and resources.
Support
the welfare and wellbeing of members.
Ensure
good governance and management.
The ASA is accountable to the ACNC and in accordance with the Charities Act 2013 (Cth) fulfils a charitable purpose through activities such as:
- advancing health
- advancing education
- advancing the natural environment
- other similar purposes ‘beneficial to the general public,’ and promoting or opposing a change to any matter established by law, policy or practice in the Commonwealth, a state, a territory or another country (where that change furthers or opposes one or more of the purposes above).

This is reflected through ASA Objects which include:
a. To advance the science and art of anaesthesia in Australia and related disciplines to achieve international best practice.
b. To promote education and training in anaesthesia and related disciplines.
c. To encourage and support research related to anaesthesia.
d. To facilitate communication between practitioners in anaesthesia and related disciplines.
e. To prescribe high standards of practice and professional conduct and to maintain the objects of such standards.
