ASA submission on informed financial consent
The Australian Society of Anaesthetists (ASA) has made a submission on informed financial consent (IFC) and fee transparency. In its submission to the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing’s consultation on Fee Transparency in Health Care: Informed Financial Consent and Split Billing Practices, the ASA supported efforts to improve patients’ understanding of healthcare costs before they agree to treatment. The submission cautions however that any reform to IFC must recognise the clinical realities of anaesthesia care. ASA submission to the ACCC regarding Honeysuckle Health Ltd and nib health funds limited
The ASA has made a submission to the ACCC opposing the proposed re-authorisation of Honeysuckle Health and nib’s collective contracting arrangements. The ASA is concerned that these arrangements could increase insurer market power, reduce competition, limit patient choice, and place further pressure on anaesthetists and other medical specialists. The submission also highlights risks for regional and rural communities, where reduced provider choice and ongoing private service closures may worsen access to timely care.
