We advocate on behalf of our members at a wide range of levels…

Our Activities

The Policy Team represents the ASA and its members by engaging with the professional and economic issues that concern practicing anaesthetists. We work closely with the three Advisory Committees on initiatives such as the Relative Value Guide, advocacy during the MBS Review, and stakeholder engagements with private health insurers and government. The Policy Team also takes carriage of the delivery of ASA Position Statements, submissions on professional issues to government departments, and the provision of patient advisory material.

Member Resources

We provide a wide range of resources to the members including Patient Information Pamphlets, Brochures and useful forms, Position Statements, Relative Value Guide and more.

Policy Updates

We provide latest news and updates for the members.

As the peak body and leading voice for representing the professional interests of Australian anaesthetists, the ASA writes a number of submissions to contribute viewpoints for the development of policies and to uphold both industry and professional standards.

Our Committees

The ASA Policy Team works closely with three Advisory Committees to provide the best representation of the interests of its members possible:

Economic Advisory Committee

The Economic Advisory Committee (EAC) has carriage of overseeing the important economic issues of the profession, as well as assisting members in the economic and industrial aspects of practice. EAC designs the RVG and provides advice to members regarding item numbers and billing.

Professional Issues Advisory Committee

The Professional Issues Advisory Committee (PIAC) covers issues of best practice in both public and private health care. PIAC represents ASA members to government and authoritative industry bodies and helps define the ASA’s position on professional issues through its Position Statements.

Public Practice Advisory Committee

The Public Practice Advisory Committee (PPAC) focuses on the provision of anaesthesia services in the public sector and for public patients treated in the private sector. They provide support and guidance to members working primarily in the public sector.
