Earlier today the ASA was made aware of a Critical Quarantine Notice and a Critical Product Recall Notice for a range of antiseptic products supplied by Reynard Health Supplies (Reynard).
What is the problem?
There is a potential for Achromobacter contamination with certain antiseptic products.
What are the risks?
Contaminated products with Achromobacter can potentially result in serious infections, which may be life-threatening for patients with compromised immune systems.
Critical Quarantine
On 26 March, following agreement with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), Reynard announced a Critical Quarantine of multiple antiseptic products. These include Reynard Prep Pads and antiseptic swabsticks.
The full list of quarantined products and product codes is provided on page 3 of this Quarantine Notice from Reynard, dated 26 March 2025.
What should you do?
Stop using and inspect your stock immediately. Quarantine any stock of the above products on hand to prevent further use, until further notice.
This problem is still being investigated by Reynard and the TGA. Reynard has committed to providing further updates when available.
Critical Product Recall
Please note that on 24 March the TGA published a Product Recall alert for a much more limited list of antiseptic products.
