Consultant Anaesthetist – Paediatric Dental GA

Position: Part-time/Casual (commencing 2026)
Locations: Melbourne, South East & South West VIC, Geelong, Ballarat, Surrey Hills, Werribee

Our anaesthesia service is seeking a Consultant Anaesthetist to provide general anaesthesia for paediatric dental lists at dentist-owned general anaesthesia facilities, approved by the Department of Health and ANZCA, under the Health Regulations, for the provision of the full range of anaesthesia and sedation. This role offers weekday full-day sessions only – no on-call or weekend work – supporting an excellent work-life balance.

You will deliver hospital-quality anaesthetic care to children (and patients with special needs) in a state-of-the-art mobile theatre environment, backed by strong nursing support and robust safety governance (Victorian Dept. of Health accredited service).

Role Highlights:

Requirements: FANZCA qualification and AHPRA specialist registration are essential, along with a current Working With Children Check and police clearance. Prior paediatric GA experience is welcomed but not essential – mentoring and supervised training in paediatric anaesthesia can be provided.

Consultant Anaesthetist – Adult Dental GA

Position: Part-time/Casual (commencing Jan 8th 2026)
Locations: Melbourne, South East & South West VIC, Geelong, Ballarat (multiple clinic sites), Surry Hills, Werribee

Our anaesthesia service is also seeking a Consultant Anaesthetist to provide general anaesthesia for adult dental patients undergoing complex procedures (such as full-arch implant surgeries, extensive dental clearances, etc.) at dentist-owned general anaesthesia facilities, approved by the Department of Health and ANZCA, under the Health Regulations, for the provision of the full range of anaesthesia and sedation. This position involves weekday full-day lists only – no weekends or on-call – offering predictability and work-life balance. As the Consultant Anaesthetist, you will bring hospital-grade anaesthetic care into modern dental facilities, ensuring safety and comfort for ASA 1–2 adults in a well-equipped, mobile GA setting.

Role Highlights:

  • Challenging Case Mix: Tackle a high volume of long-duration cases in dental surgery, ideal for honing skills in complex anaesthesia outside the traditional hospital environment.
  • Autonomous & Supported: Work independently as the sole anaesthetist on site, with a relaxed, collegial team around you – including a seasoned Director of Nursing and skilled anaesthetic/PACU nurses to assist and uphold governance standards.
  • Modern & Safe: Practice in Department-of-Health accredited mobile theatres with full anaesthetic equipment (TIVA, difficult airway trolley, monitoring) and established safety protocols, recently re-accredited for quality care.
  • Grow with Us: Option to engage in our academic and outreach activities –
    from research projects and ultrasound training to mobile community health initiatives – enhancing your professional development (participation optional).

Requirements: Fellowship of ANZCA (FANZCA) and AHPRA specialist registration are required. We prefer candidates with 5–10+ years of consultant-level experience or proven capability in solo anaesthesia practice, given the independent nature of this role. Your Clinical Scope

As a Consultant Anaesthetist, you’ll provide comprehensive anaesthetic services across elective, urgent and emergency procedures, with perioperative clinic responsibilities shared on a rotating basis.

A diverse case mix to keep you challenged

  • Orthopaedics: hip and knee replacements, trauma surgery and a broad range of general orthopaedic procedures
  • General Surgery: laparoscopic cholecystectomy, bowel resections, hernia repairs, skin lesion excisions and gastroenterology cases
  • Obstetrics & Gynaecology: epidural analgesia for labour and anaesthesia for caesarean section
  • Urology: endoscopic and elective procedures
  • Dental Surgery

Expedited Specialist Pathways

Are you an International Medical Graduate (IMG) looking to fast-track your career in Australia?
The Expedited Specialist Pathway provides a streamlined route for eligible doctors to gain recognition and begin practising sooner.

Currently available in General Practice, Anaesthesia, Psychiatry, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology (with further specialties expected to be added), this pathway allows eligible Specialist International Medical Graduates (SIMGs) to transition into practice with greater ease.

To qualify, you’ll need to hold a specialist qualification listed on the Medical Board of Australia’s Expedited Specialist Pathway accepted qualifications list. Once approved, you can commence work under specialist registration with six months of supervised practice.

About the Role:

Monash Health is seeking an accomplished leader to oversee the Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine.

The Service Medical Director will:

Provide strategic and clinical leadership, ensuring safe, effective, and reliable service delivery across all Monash Health sites.

Collaborate with key programs and departments including Radiology, Women’s & Newborn, Children’s, Victorian Heart Hospital, Emergency and Intensive Care, and Jessie McPherson Private Hospital.
