The ASA’s annual PMEd Connect conference returned in 2025 to Cairns, with renewed energy and insight, bringing together practice managers from across the country for a dynamic exchange of ideas, professional development, and forward-thinking strategies.
This year’s program featured a stellar lineup of speakers who shared their expertise across clinical, legal, and policy domains:
- Dr Michael Lumsden-Steel, Chair of the ASA’s Economics Advisory Committee, captivated attendees with his unique perspective shaped by a career spanning anaesthesia and military service. His insights into economic trends and their impact on anaesthetic practice were both timely and thought-provoking.
- Daniel Spencer, Medico-legal Adviser at MDA National, offered a deep dive into regulatory challenges and risk management, drawing on his extensive experience in legal advisory roles across Ahpra and private practice.
- Tracy Pickett, Legal and Policy Advisor at Avant, explored the evolving medico-legal landscape, with a special focus on the implications of AI in healthcare. Her presentation highlighted emerging risks and the importance of proactive policy development.
- Geoffrey Simpson, Assistant Director at the Department of Health and Aged Care, provided valuable updates on MBS policy, particularly in anaesthesia, neurology, and neurosurgery. His session underscored the importance of strategic engagement in shaping health policy.
