Who can join the Australian Society of Anaesthetists as an NZ Trainee Member?
- NZSA trainee member AND registered as ANZCA trainee.
- MCNZ Medical Registration Number is required to confirm registration to practise in NZ.

Membership Fees
Fees exclude GST unless otherwise stated and apply for the calendar year. If you join partway through the year, a pro-rata rate may be available. You can choose to pay annually or by monthly direct debit

NZSA trainee members who achieve FANZCA will not automatically transfer to Ordinary Membership unless relocating to Australia and hold registration to practise in Australia.
If you do not relocate to Australia and meet the registration requirements, your ASA trainee membership will conclude when you complete FANZCA.

ASA Submission to the ACCC regarding Honeysuckle Health Ltd and nib health funds limited
The ASA has made a submission to the ACCC opposing the proposed re-authorisation of Honeysuckle Health and nib’s collective contracting arrangements. The ASA is concerned that these arrangements could increase insurer market power, reduce competition, limit patient choice, and place further pressure on anaesthetists and other medical specialists. The submission also highlights risks for regional and rural communities, where reduced provider choice and ongoing private service closures may worsen access to timely care. The ASA argues that the claimed public benefits have not been demonstrated and that the ACCC should undertake a fresh assessment based on current market conditions and
ASA responds to proposal to cap specialist medical fees
The Australian Society of Anaesthetists has responded to an article published in the Australian Financial Review on July 12 concerning a proposal to cap medical specialist fees. Read the response from ASA President, Dr Vida Viliunas, 15 July 2026 Background The article notes a proposed amendment to the Australian Labor Party’s National Platform, to be considered at its upcoming National Conference from 23 – 25 July, which seeks to cap medical specialist fees. ASA response to commentary on Hospital Ownership
The Australian Society of Anaesthetists (ASA) has recently responded to media and stakeholder enquiries concerning anonymous correspondence about our Statement on Private Hospital Ownership, which was made available to ASA members in late May. These responses reflect the policy positions adopted by the ASA following all usual processes and were also informed by independent research, including our recent Specialist Fees and Informed Financial Consent Survey. The ASA’s position is clear. Where ownership interests or other financial arrangements exist, they should be transparent. ASA members are always required to disclose these interests when they are involved in the development of ASA
