The ASA supports research into the effects of general anaesthesia on cancer survival.

The ASA believes that:

  1. Surgery is a mainstay of cancer therapy.
  2. For most major cancer operations, general anaesthesia is required.
  3. General anaesthesia in its different forms is safe, and Australia is the safest place in the world in which to receive it.
  4. It is not proven that any particular form of general anaesthesia improves or worsens cancer in patients.
