The ASA supports research into the effects of general anaesthesia on cancer survival.
The ASA believes that:
- Surgery is a mainstay of cancer therapy.
- For most major cancer operations, general anaesthesia is required.
- General anaesthesia in its different forms is safe, and Australia is the safest place in the world in which to receive it.
- It is not proven that any particular form of general anaesthesia improves or worsens cancer in patients.
