A recent media release by the Minister for Health Greg Hunt indicates the Coalition Government’s plan to launch a national strategy aimed at combating excessive out-of-pocket (OOP) costs charged by medical specialists.
The Government will fund the development of a national searchable website which will allow the public to access information on the costs of specialist services. This is based on findings by the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Out of Pocket Costs report, released 2 March 2019, which found that a small number of medical specialists charge substantial or unexpected OOP costs.
