Benefits

We host events specifically aimed at meeting the needs of trainees such as providing Part 0 courses to prepare trainees for the anaesthetic training program and Part 3 courses to prepare advanced trainees for life as a consultant. We provide exam and education support and scholarship opportunities each year. We also recognise that help shouldn’t stop as soon as you have entered training and so we ensure that assistance and advice can be found in determining future career options when embarking on your professional life. Even more importantly, we aim to encourage and develop future leadership potential in our members and do this through the constant call for opinions and advice from trainees, established anaesthetists and major representative bodies.

When you join as a Trainee member, you become part of a community which aims at promoting, sharing and communicating information with each other. As a Trainee member you will receive regular updates on developments in anaesthesia and medicine in general as well as offering the chance to develop and contribute to a representative network of established anaesthetists and trainees.

Additionally, the fiscal benefits of becoming an ASA member and joining as a Trainee member is that you will receive the first two years of Introductory/Basic Trainee membership free; and when you commence your Advanced training or first year as a Fellow you will be given one complimentary registration to the Society’s biggest annual event; the National Scientific Conference (terms and conditions apply, please contact the Membership Team for further details). When you look at it, over the three years that you are paying as a trainee, the membership will have paid for itself!

As a Trainee member you will automatically receive:
  • The ASA President's monthly email newsletter
  • The Society's highly regarded membership magazine Australian Anaesthetist
  • Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Journal
  • A copy of the Anaesthetic Crisis Manual (Advanced trainees only).

Once you have joined, you will have access to a number of additional resources in the members only section of this website including:
  • Articles of interest
  • Links to learning and exam resources
  • Scholarship opportunities.
